Listen to A Keening for The Red Thirst

A few months ago, I used the forbidden AI to create the musical accompaniment (does everyone else remember that scene from O Brother! when they have to say that word, or is it just me?). Also, my singing voice has a rather make-you-question-God’s-existence-quality. However, I wrote the words in the tradition of the keening as I thought it fitting for her. I hope you enjoy it!

I love all things Irish, and being from West Virginia, I’m particularly fond of the music. Why? Because keening is still alive and well in the hills and hollers of Appalachia. Bluegrass is but a half-generation removed from Iris trad. I think I could write an entire post on this.

I think, in some ways, I fell in love with this character, this version of the Dearg-Dú, and wanted to pay tribute to her in some way. The original story is rich with feminism and injustice. I hope I’ve added to it.

I hope this works. This is my first published written song/keen and I chose to do it about the #horror novel I amquerying. I have fallen in love with this character in a way. I hope you enjoy it. This is not my voice, but AI generated voice. The images are storyboard ideas that help me to focus and to make sure that the writing is coming across. Plus, I included a snippet of an actual scene. #ireland#irishtiktokmmusicooriginalsoundooriginalsongooriginalmusicaauthorsoftiktokbbooktokiirishmusickkeeng#gothic
